Trust
February 2023 was a very special time of the year. It was great to be able to go home for New Years and begin to put COVID-19 behind us. Springtime for Asian cultures often means a cherished time of gathering with family and friends but it also inadvertently comes with a judging cycle of expectations, comparison and competition between family members’ achievements and life stage. We wonder if you have found yourself in a cycle of constant judgment, comparison and competition? If so, have you been able to find an escape?
This year, maybe some of us weren’t able to earn enough to buy that house or car that we wanted, or our children didn’t receive the admissions offer from their university of choice, or perhaps we lost that promotion opportunity, or our company is facing bankruptcy, or we just came out of a failed relationship with our partner, or we find ourselves faced with the overwhelming, nagging weight of questions and expectations from relatives, or even we find ourselves envious of others from scrolling through social media. All of these hardships and setbacks are as if we are digging our own graves. This might be the best time to do some soul searching.

This month, we wanted to bring up the topic of "trust". The word itself is not difficult to understand. Trust: firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something. How do you believe and stand firm in what you trust? Or has skepticism become the norm?
We often crave the approval and acceptance of others, but the opinion of others constantly shifts in different directions. If our focus is on gaining the approval of others, we eventually become something we are not. Human love, approval and acceptance is limited. The rewards of gaining human approval are short-lived. Has this been something you have thought about and want to make changes?

There are some things in life we really want to change, but the object of what we trust is not stable enough. Whenever we encounter the opposing opinions of others' or life doesn’t go our way, like a touchstone that is used to test the purity of a metal of its gold or silver properties, so in the same way what we put our trust in is then truly put to the test.
May all that you deeply trust and cling on to bring you to greater good and lead you to breakthroughs. May you come to a place of thriving strength and energy in life. May you be hopeful for the future as you recall the footsteps of your journey.
